Traveling with a Breast Pump - Domestic Airline Guidance

The United States Food and Drug Administration classifies breast pumps as medical devices. Accordingly, they should be allowed as a carry-on without impacting any airline-specific limits. However, some airlines or personnel may be unaware and in need of the specific regulations. The following includes a round-up of guidance regarding breast-pumps from domestic airlines.

ALASKA AIRLINES: Breast pump does not count towards carry-on limit.

ALLEGIANT: Medical device does not count towards carry-on bag or personal item.

AMERICAN AIRLINES: Breast pump, diaper bag (1 per child), small, soft-sided cooler of breastmilk do not count as personal item or carry-on.

BREEZE AIRWAYS: Breast pump does not count towards carry-on as long as it is in its own bag and it is carried by the user.
